Women's Basketball Heads to Heidelberg Monday; WATCH LIVE

Mount Union's women's basketball team takes on Heidelberg in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup Monday at 7:00 pm at Seiberling Gymnasium in Tiffin, Ohio.

Both teams are tied for sixth place in the OAC and both are trying to snap losing streaks.

The Purple Raiders (9-9, 3-8 OAC) are on a two-game skid falling to John Carroll (101-78) and Capital (70-50) last week while Heidelberg (10-8, 3-8 OAC), after starting the season 10-3, have dropped five-straight including a 75-68 home loss to Wilmington this past Saturday.

Both teams are also in the middle of the conference in both scoring offense and scoring defense -- Mount Union is fifth in the conference in scoring (72.1 points per game) and scoring defense (64.9 points allowed per game), while Heidelberg is fourth in the conference in scoring (73.6 points per game) and scoring defense (73.5 points allowed per game).

The game also features two of the top individual scorers in the conference in Heidelberg's Kathleen Phillips and Mount Union's Annie Bova (Parma Heights/ Beaumont).

Phillips is second in the OAC in scoring at 22.8 points per game while Bova is third in the conference at 14.7 points per game. 

Two of the top young forwards in the conference will also matchup in Raider sophomore Sarah Grippi (Ventia, Pa./ Peters Township) and freshman Carli Patrick of The Berg.

Grippi leads Mount Union at 5.3 rebounds per game and tops the conference in shooting percentage (59.0) while Patrick paces Heidelberg at 5.6 rebounds per game at is second in the OAC in shooting percentage (58.2).

EARLIER THIS SEASON

A seven minute scoring drought late in the second half sent Mount Union to a 73-66 home loss to Heidelberg in early December.  Kathleen Phillips had a game-high 25 points for Heidelberg while Annie Bova led Mount Union with 18 points.

THE SERIES

This is the 63rd meeting between the two schools with Mount Union holding a 32-30 lead in the all-time series. 

THE COACHES

Suzy Venet (Mount Union '98) is 162-79 in her ninth season as head coach at her alma mater. Since taking over, she brought the Raiders back to being one of the nation's top programs, three OAC Tournament titles, two OAC regular season titles, and three straight trips to the NCAA tournament including to the Sweet 16 in 2010 and 2012. Venet was an All-American player at Mount Union during a time that included three-straight NCAA Tournament appearances with a second place finish in 1996.

Morgan Shriver (Heidelberg '09) is 10-8 in her first season as head coach at her alma mater. Shriver was a four-year letterwinner and holds the Student Princes record with seven 3-pointers in a game.
