ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Mount Union women's basketball team lost to No. 23 ranked John Carroll 101-78 Wednesday in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex in Alliance.
Senior Bridget Lyons (Avon Lake/Avon Lake) scored a career-high 12 points, as she was one of three Purple Raiders who scored double-figures to lead the Mount Union (9-8, 3-7 OAC).
Sophomores Annie Bova (Parma Heights/Beaumont) and Sarah Grippi (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) each had a team-high 14 points.
The Spahar sisters, Melissa and Katlyn, combined for 58 points to lead the Blue Streaks (14-2, 9-2 OAC). Melissa had a game-high 37 points as Katlyn chipped in 21 points.
Mount Union took a 10-4 lead in the game's first four minutes before John Carroll surged to go on a 16-8 run to take their first lead 20-18.
Both teams traded buckets for the remainder of the half, before Mount Union took a 44-43 lead going into the half.
The Blue Streaks would start the second half outscoring the Raiders 14-6 and never looked back going up by as many as 24 points.
Mount Union travels to Columbus Saturday, February 1 for an OAC matchup at 3 pm against Capital at the Capital Center.
