TIFFIN, Ohio – Mount Union's women's basketball team defeated Heidelberg, 64-62 in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup Monday night in Tiffin.
The Purple Raiders (10-9, 4-8 OAC) had three players in double-figures with sophomore Annie Bova (Parma Heights/Beaumont) leading the team with 16 points, as junior Chandler Moore (Girard, Pa./Girard) and sophomore Sarah Grippi (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) had 13 and 14 points respectively.
Heidelberg (10-9, 3-9 OAC) was led by Kathleen Phillips who had a game-high 24 points and Carli Patrick with 16 rebounds.
In the game's opening 13 minutes, each team led twice and the Berg held a 21-20 edge before going on a 16-6 run to take an 11-point lead, 37-26 with 27 seconds left in the half.
Robyn Brown (Woodland Hills, Ca./Chaminade College Prep) hit a three-pointer with six seconds left in the period that closed the deficit to 37-29 at the break.
The teams traded baskets the first five minutes of the second half and Heidelberg held a 48-40 lead with 14:49 to play.
The Raiders then scored 10-straight points as part of a 19-4 run to retake the lead 59-52 with five minutes remaining as they held off the Berg the rest of the way for the win.
The Raiders play four of their final six regular season games at home and two of those games are at the MAAC this week -- Wednesday at 7:30 pm against Baldwin Wallace and Saturday at 3 pm against Otterbein.
