Women's Basketball Hosts Baldwin Wallace in Play 4 Kay Game Wednesday

Mount Union's women's basketball team takes on Baldwin Wallace in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup Wednesday at 7:30 pm at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex in Alliance, Ohio.

The team will dedicate the game to the Play 4 Kay and raise awareness and funds for The Kay Yow Cancer Fund. Fans will be able to make donations at the door or go online right now and make donations at http://www.play4kay.org/mountunionwbb

The Purple Raiders (10-9, 4-8 OAC) ranked fourth in the conference, snapped a two-game skid Monday night defeating Heidelberg 64-62 at Heidelberg.

Mount Union remains ranked fifth in the conference in scoring (70.8 points per game) and scoring defense (66.9 points allowed per game).

The Raiders are led by sophomore Annie Bova (Parma Heights/Beaumont) who is ranked third in the OAC and leads Mount Union in scoring with 14.7 points per game.

Sophomore Sarah Grippi (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) is second on the team in scoring 9.3 points per game, first in the conference in shooting percentage (59.5) and leads the team in rebounds with 5.3 per contest.

Baldwin Wallace (14-5, 9-3 OAC) ranked second in the conference, snapped a two-game skid with an 88-65 victory against Otterbein on Saturday.

The Yellow Jackets are second in the conference in scoring offense (77.4 points per game) and scoring defense (64.5 points allowed per game).

Junior Audrey Smolik leads the Yellow Jackets averaging 12.7 points per game, while senior Lexi Rohrbach averages 10.6 points per game and a team-high 7.2 rebounds per game.

EARLIER THIS SEASON

After a 5-0 run from the Yellow Jackets at the start of the second half, the Raiders went down by a seven point gap. This would be the closest the Raiders would come before the Yellow Jackets would take control for the remainder of the game and go on for the 73-52 victory.

THE SERIES

This is the 81st meeting between the two schools, with the all-time series being tied at 40 each. In the last six years the Raiders lead 7-6 in the matchup.

COACHES

Suzy Venet (Mount Union '98) is 163-79 in her ninth season as head coach at her alma mater. Since taking over, she brought the Raiders back to being one of the nation's top programs, three OAC Tournament titles, two OAC regular season titles, and three straight trips to the NCAA tournament including to the Sweet 16 in 2010 and 2012. Venet was an All-American player at Mount Union during a time that included three-straight NCAA Tournament appearances with a second place finish in 1996.

Cherri Harrer (Findlay '85) is 480-177 in her 24th year as head coach at Baldwin-Wallace. She is the winningest women's basketball coach in school history and second in the history of the Ohio Athletic Conference. Harrer has compiled a 466-172 career record and a .730 winning percentage previous to the 2013-2014 season.
