Women’s Basketball Travels to Muskingum Wednesday; LIVE AUDIO

Mount Union's women's basketball takes on Muskingum in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup Wednesday at 7:30 pm in Muskingum.

The Purple Raiders (11-10, 5-9 OAC) won two of their last three games, defeating Heidelberg Monday (64-62) and Otterbein 57-62 on Saturday.

The Raiders are led by junior Chandler Moore (Girard, Pa./Girard) who in the last three games has averaged 18 points and set a new career-high 23 points  against Otterbein on Saturday.

Sophomore Sarah Grippi (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) is second on the team in scoring at 9.1 points per game and leads the team in rebounds with 5.3 per game while fellow sophomore Colleen Kennehan (Berlin Center/Western Reserve) leads the team in assists at 2.1 per game.

Muskingum (5-15, 3-11 OAC) is tied for eighth in the conference and have lost three straight games including a 72-46 loss to Ohio Northern this past Saturday.

The Muskies are led by Senior Tori Jarrett averaging 13.1 points per game and 4.2 rebounds per game.

Senior Meghan Billick leads the Muskies and is fourth in the conference with 7.7 rebounds per game.

EARLIER THIS SEASON

Bova scored Mount Union's first seven points as they jumped out to a 7-2 lead. The Muskies would battle to within a point, 14-13 with 13:24 remaining in the first half.

The Raiders would answer with a 12-0 run to make the score 26-13 with 11:11 in the half. Mount Union went into the half with a 47-31 advantage.

Muskingum opened the second half cutting the Raiders lead to eight points with 12:22 remaining, 55-47. The Raiders went on a 12-0 surge, as Bova scored 10 of the 12 points, to go up 67-47 with 10:28 to go.

Mount Union then cruised to the 22-point victory, 83-61.

THE SERIES

This is the 17th meeting between the two teams under Venet. Mount Union has won 15 out of the 16 meetings, with the last loss on January 24, 2009 at Muskingum.

THE COACHES

Suzy Venet (Mount Union '98) is 164-80 in her ninth season as head coach at her alma mater. Since taking over, she brought the Raiders back to being one of the nation's top programs, three OAC Tournament titles, two OAC regular season titles, and three straight trips to the NCAA tournament including to the Sweet 16 in 2010 and 2012. Venet was an All-American player at Mount Union during a time that included three-straight NCAA Tournament appearances with a second place finish in 1996.

Beth Fox (Bluffton '98) is 84-165 in her 10th season as head coach. Since taking over, she has taken the Fighting Muskies to the OAC Tournament Final Four. Fox was a four-year letterwinner and was inducted into the Bluffton Hall of Fame.

UP NEXT… 

The Raiders play their final game on the road at Ohio Northern (Feb. 15) at 3 pm and will close the regular season out at home against Marietta and Wilmington.
