ALLIANCE, Ohio – No. 6 seed Mount Union advanced to the second round of the Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Tournament as they defeated No. 7 seed Muskingum, 83-71 Monday night at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.
Bridget Lyons (Avon Lake/Avon Lake) and Robyn Brown (Woodland Hills, Calif./Chaminade College Prep) came off the bench and chipped in with 10 and 11 points as the other double digit scorers for the Raiders.
Muskingum (7-18) was led by Tori Jarrett who had a team-high 14 points, while Mallory Taylor, Angela Darnley, and Gabbi Davis all had 12 points.
Muskingum opened the game going on 7-4 run before Mount Union tied the game at 7, at the 16:06 mark. The Raiders went on their own 7-3 run to take a 14-9 lead with 13:27 remaining in the first half. The Muskies took their last lead of the half going up 17-16 with 9:25 left in the period.
Over the next two minutes Brown would have eight of the Raiders nine points to make the score 27-22 with 6:30 remaining. Mount Union extended the lead to 10 – 43-33 at the half.
The Raiders opened the second half going on a 12-4 run, to lead 55-37 and put the game away with the 12 point victory – 83-71.
Mount Union travels to nationally ranked No. 24 Ohio Northern tomorrow for the second round of games, tip-off is set for 6:00 pm in Ada.
