Women's Basketball: Mount Union Falls to John Carroll Wednesday

ALLIANCE, Ohio— Mount Union's women's basketball team fell to John Carroll, 82-56, in an Ohio Athletic Conference game on Wednesday.

The Purple Raiders (9-14, 5-11 OAC) had two players scoring in double-figures with junior Katie Reed (Alliance/Marlington) scoring 17 points including four three-pointers and junior Annie Bova (Parma Heights/Beaumont) adding 11.

John Carroll (20-3, 13-3 OAC) had three players scoring in double-figures as Katlyn Spahar scored a game-high 32 points while Erin Mog and Emily Taylor added 14 and 11.

An early three-pointer for senior Nancy Osborne (North Canton/GlenOak) gave the Raiders a four-point lead—7-3—at the 16:38 mark before John Carroll hit three straight three-pointers with two going to Taylor giving the Blue Streaks a six point lead.

Carroll pushed the lead to nine before Reed caught fire from behind the arc hitting back-to-back three's bringing the Raiders within three, 19-16.

Shooting 50% from the floor earned the Blue Streaks a 12-point lead, their largest of the half, with just under six minutes remaining—32-20.

Reed again hit back-to-back three's to cut the lead in half with 3:06 left in the first half.

Another three for Taylor led John Carroll to a 40-33 lead heading into the locker room.

The Blue Streaks opened the second half with an 11-3 run to extend the lead to 17 at the 13:26 mark.

The Raiders went cold as they went scoreless for four minutes pushing the John Carroll lead to 72-46 with six minutes left to play.

John Carroll went on to defeat Mount Union 82-56.

Mount Union hosts Wilmington in the final game of the regular season as three seniors will be recognized prior to the start of competition, Saturday, Feb. 21 at 3:00 pm at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex in Alliance.
