Women's Basketball: Mount Union Wins Sixth Straight Game of the Season; Defeats Babson (Mass.)

NASHVILLE, Tenn.-  Mount Union's women's basketball won their sixth straight game of the season defeating Babson (Mass.) 85-57 in the Trevecca Nazarene Tournament in Nashville, Tenn. Wednesday night.

Leading the Purple Raiders (9-2, 3-1 OAC) in points was Annie Bova (Parma Heights/Beaumont) with 30, which was close to her career high of 31. Abby Wemhoff (Kent/Kent Roosevelt) led the Raiders in rebounds with nine and also added six points and six assists.

Babson (Mass.) (7-3, 3-0 NEWMAC) was led by Giovanna Pickering with 19 points and five rebounds.

Mount Union started the game off with a three pointer from Katie Reed (Marlington/Alliance) at the 9:06 mark down 2-3. The Raiders then went on a 12-0 run to take a 13-4 lead against the Beavers. Babson came back within one point of Mount Union at the 2:00 mark. The Raiders ended the first quarter leading the Beavers 22-20.

The Raiders came out strong in the second quarter going on an 11 point run not letting the Beavers score a single point in seven minutes. Mount Union only allowed Babson to score eight points in the second quarter while the Raiders scored 22. They went into halftime up 45-28.

The game was much of the same for the Raiders in the third and fourth quarter. Mount Union did not allow Babson within eight points of them in the third and led by 17 points or more the entire fourth. Mount Union defeated Babson 85-57.

Mount Union returns to Ohio Athletic Conference play hosting Ohio Northern Wednesday, Jan. 6 at 7:30 p.m. as a part of a double header with the men's team.
