Women's Basketball: Mount Union Hosts Wilmington for OAC Matchup Saturday

ALLIANCE, Ohio- Mount Union's women's basketball team hosts Wilmington in an Ohio Athletic Conference game Saturday at 3:00 p.m. in the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.

What: Mount Union (9-3, 3-2 OAC) vs. Wilmington (5-7, 2-3 OAC)

When: Saturday, January 9 – 3:00 p.m.

Game Preview: Mount Union is coming off a 66-53 loss to No. 21 ranked Ohio Northern Wednesday night.

The Purple Raiders had three players in double figures as Annie Bova (Parma Heights/Beaumont) scored 11 while Bella Pecchia (North Ridgeville/North Ridgeville) and Katie Reed (Alliance/Marlington) each scored 10 points.

Bova leads the team and is first in the OAC with 19.9 points per game. She is also fourth in the OAC in field goal percentage with 52.9. Abby Wemhoff (Kent/Kent Roosevelt) leads the team in rebounds with a total of 74 and averages 6.2 per game.

Wilmington is coming into the game with a 61-53 loss to Trine University.

Brittaney Jefferson led the Fighting Quakers in points with 12 while Mary Moyer had a game-high of 11 rebounds.  

Coaches: Suzy Venet is in her 10th season as head women's basketball coach at Mount Union. Since taking over as coach, she has brought the Raiders three OAC Tournament titles, two OAC regular season titles and three-straight trips to the NCAA Tournament including making it to the Sweet 16 in 2010 and 2012.  Venet was named the OAC Coach of the Year in 2011 and 2012 and Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year by both the WBCA and D3Hoops.com in 2010 and 2012.

Jerry Sheve is in his 23 years as head women's basketball coach at Wilmington. He has won more than 400 games in his time at Wilmington. Scheves was named the National Coach of the Year after leading the Lady Quakers to the 2003-04 NCAA Division III national championship. The 2003-04 national championship season was preceded by three National Tournament appearances that included trips to the "Elite Eight" and "Sweet 16" in 2002 and 2003. Wilmington advanced to the second round of the 2007 NCAA Tournament and returned to the NCAA Tournament in 2008.
