Women's Basketball: Raiders Host Baldwin Wallace in Play 4 Kay Game

ALLIANCE, Ohio- Mount Union's women's basketball team will play host to Baldwin Wallace on their Play 4 Kay game Wednesday, Jan. 27 at 7:30 pm in the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex in Alliance.

The team will dedicate the game to Play 4 Kay and raise awareness and funds for The Kay Yow Cancer Fund. In place of an admissions fee fans will be able to make donations at the door. Watch this video to learn more about Play 4 Kay https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smMz2f-t4Fg

Game Preview: Mount Union is coming off a 68-60 win against Baldwin Wallace Saturday.

Annie Bova (Parma Heights/Beaumont) had 18, Katie Reed (Alliance/Marlington) had 12 while Abbey Bartoszewicz (Wexford, Pa./Vencentian Academy) came off the bench for 11 points as the Purple Raiders improve to 13-4 overall and 7-3 in the OAC.

Bova leads the team and is second in the OAC with 20.1 ppg. Abby Wemhoff (Kent/Kent Roosevelt) leads the team in rebounds with a total of 104 and averages 6.1 per game.

Baldwin Wallace is coming off a 79-51 win against Muskingum. Sophomore guard Katie Smith scored a game and career-high 18 points.

Earlier This Season: The Raiders lost to the Yellow Jackets in the last meeting on December 2. Mount Union led most of the game until Baldwin Wallace pulled away in the fourth quarter to lead the rest of the way and win 53-46. Bova led the team in points with 22 and also added seven rebounds.

Coaches: Suzy Venet is in her 10th season as head women's basketball coach at Mount Union. Since taking over as coach, she has brought the Raiders three OAC Tournament titles, two OAC regular season titles and three-straight trips to the NCAA Tournament including making it to the Sweet 16 in 2010 and 2012.  Venet was named the OAC Coach of the Year in 2011 and 2012 and Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year by both the WBCA and D3Hoops.com in 2010 and 2012.

Cheri Harrer recently completed a successful 25th season of coaching women's basketball at Baldwin Wallace University by leading her Yellow Jackets back to the NCAA Division III National Tournament. The Yellow Jackets made their second consecutive trip to the Division III National Tournament in 2014-2015 and the 13th trip to the NCAA Div. III national tourney under Harrer's leadership. Harrer is the winningest women's basketball coach in school history.
