Women's Basketball: Raiders Travel to Ada to Take on No. 14 Ohio Northern Saturday

ALLIANCE, Ohio- Mount Union's women's basketball team will travel to Ada to take on No. 14 Ohio Northern in an Ohio Athletic Conference game at the ONU Sports Center Saturday, Feb. 6 at 3 p.m.

What: Mount Union (14-5, 8-4 OAC) vs. No. 14 Ohio Northern (16-3, 11-1 OAC)

When: Saturday, Feb. 6 at 3 p.m.

Game Preview: Mount Union is coming off a 57-47 win against No. 13 Capital Saturday afternoon.  

Katie Reed (Alliance/Marlington) led the Purple Raiders with a game-high 24 points and 13 rebounds who are now 14-5 overall and 8-4 in the OAC with a season sweep of the Crusaders.

Annie Bova (Parma Heights/Beaumont) leads the team and is second in the OAC with 19.9 ppg. Abby Wemhoff (Kent/Kent Roosevelt) leads the team in rebounds with a total of 112 and averages 5.9 per game.

No. 14 Ohio Northern is coming off a 69-53 win over OAC opponent Wilmington. The Polar Bears were led Brooke Espenschied, Carly Thomas and Britt Lauck with 12 points each. Ohio Northern improve to 17-3 overall and 12-1 in the OAC.

Earlier This Season:  Mount Union lost to, at the time, No. 21 ranked Ohio Northern, 66-53, on Jan. 5. The Purple Raiders had three players in double figures as Annie Bova (Parma Heights/Beaumont) scored 11, Bella Pecchia (North Ridgeville/North Ridgeville) and Katie Reed (Alliance/Marlington) each scored 10 points. Amy Bullimore finished with a game-high 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Coaches:  Suzy Venet is in her 10th season as head women's basketball coach at Mount Union. Since taking over as coach, she has brought the Raiders three OAC Tournament titles, two OAC regular season titles and three-straight trips to the NCAA Tournament including making it to the Sweet 16 in 2010 and 2012.  Venet was named the OAC Coach of the Year in 2011 and 2012 and Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year by both the WBCA and D3Hoops.com in 2010 and 2012.

Michele Durand enters her 15th season as the head coach of the Ohio Northern women's basketball program. She also serves as an assistant professor in the ONU department of human performance and sport sciences. In 2014-15, Durand guided the Polar Bears to a 20-6 record, with a 16-2 mark in OAC play. The Polar Bears won the OAC regular season and made it to the semifinals of the OAC tournament for the fourth time in her ONU coaching career. For her efforts, Durand was named the Ohio Athletic Conference coach of the year for the second consecutive season, third time in her career.
