Women's Basketball: Raiders Take on Heidelberg Saturday for Senior Day

ALLIANCE, Ohio- Mount Union's women's basketball team hosts Heidelberg in an Ohio Athletic Conference game at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex Saturday, Feb. 13 at 3 p.m. as they celebrate their seven seniors for Senior Day.  

What: Mount Union (15-6, 9-5 OAC) vs. Heidelberg (9-13, 7-8 OAC)

When: Saturday, Feb. 13 at 3:00 p.m.  

Where: McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex- Alliance, Ohio

Game Preview: Mount Union is coming off an 82-67 win against Marietta Wednesday night. 

Annie Bova (Parma Heights/Beaumont) scored a game-high 18 points, Katie Reed (Alliance/Marlington) added 17 and Sarah Grippi (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) came off the bench with 10 as the Purple Raiders are now 15-6 overall and 9-5 in the OAC.

Bova leads the team and is second in the OAC with 19.2 ppg. Abby Wemhoff (Kent/Kent Roosevelt) leads the team in rebounds with a total of 128 and averages 6.1 per game.

Heidelberg is coming off a 70-51 loss against No. 11 Ohio Northern Wednesday night. Marisa Liburdi led the Student Princes with 14 points and eight rebounds. All 14 of her points came in the in the second quarter.

Earlier This Season:  Mount Union's defeated Heidelberg 73-59 in an Ohio Athletic Conference game Wednesday, Dec. 9 in Tiffin. Bova had 17 points and freshman guard Rachel Tinkey (Canfield/Canfield) had 16.

The Student Princes were led by Marisa Luburdi who scored 19 points and also added five rebounds.

Coaches:  Suzy Venet is in her 10th season as head women's basketball coach at Mount Union. Since taking over as coach, she has brought the Raiders three OAC Tournament titles, two OAC regular season titles and three-straight trips to the NCAA Tournament including making it to the Sweet 16 in 2010 and 2012.  Venet was named the OAC Coach of the Year in 2011 and 2012 and Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year by both the WBCA and D3Hoops.com in 2010 and 2012.

The 2015-16 season is Morgan Shriver's third at the helm of the women's basketball program as her career record stands at 23-30, 13-23 OAC. She went 12-14, 5-13 OAC in first season, surpassing win total of previous three years combined. Her first career victory came in 80-70 win against Pitt-Greensburg and she also guided Kathleen Phillips to All-OAC First Team selection.
