Women's Basketball: Mount Union Travels to John Carroll Wednesday for OAC Match-Up

ALLIANCE, Ohio- Mount Union's women's basketball team will travel to John Carroll in an Ohio Athletic Conference game at the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center, Feb. 17 at 7:30 p.m.

What: Mount Union (17-6, 11-5 OAC) vs. John Carroll (12-11,7-9 OAC)

When: Wednesday, Feb. 17 at 7:30 p.m.

Game Preview: Mount Union won its third straight game over Muskingum, 79-67, Monday night and is tied with Capital for second place.   

Annie Bova (Parma Heights/Beaumont) led four Purple Raiders in double figures with 18 points. Rachel Tinkey (Canfield/Canfield) scored 12 of her 15 in the fourth quarter while Katie Reed (Alliance/Marlington) had 14 points and Abby Wemhoff (Kent/Kent Roosevelt) scored 12 points with nine rebounds.

Bova leads the team and is second in the OAC with 19.1 ppg. Wemhoff leads the team in rebounds with a total of 143 and averages 6.2 per game.

John Carroll is coming off a 57-56 win over Marietta Saturday afternoon. The Blue Streaks were led by Katlyn Spahar with a game-high 20 points.

Earlier This Season:  Mount Union's women's basketball team lost to John Carroll 90-83 in an Ohio Athletic Conference game Jan. 16. Reed had a career-high 30 points and Bova had 15. The Blue Streaks were led by Kaitlyn Spahar with a game-high 42 points.

Coaches:  Suzy Venet is in her 10th season as head women's basketball coach at Mount Union. Since taking over as coach, she has brought the Raiders three OAC Tournament titles, two OAC regular season titles and three-straight trips to the NCAA Tournament including making it to the Sweet 16 in 2010 and 2012.  Venet was named the OAC Coach of the Year in 2011 and 2012 and Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year by both the WBCA and D3Hoops.com in 2010 and 2012. 

Kelly Morrone enters her third season at the helm of the John Carroll program. In 2014-15, Morrone led the Blue Streaks to a second consecutive NCAA Tournament berth. Under her tutelage, JCU went 22-5, including a stellar 12-1 record at the DeCarlo Center. Three players were named to the All-OAC team, and Kaitlyn Spahar was named the Helen Ludwig OAC Player of the Year.
