Women's Basketball: Raiders Travel to Wilmington For Last Regular Season Game

ALLIANCE, Ohio- Mount Union's women's basketball team will travel to Wilmington in their last Ohio Athletic Conference regular season game Saturday, Feb. 20 at 3:00 p.m.

What: Mount Union (18-6, 12-5 OAC) vs. Wilmington (9-15, 6-11 OAC)

When: Saturday Feb. 20 at 3:00 p.m.

Game Preview: Mount Union won its fourth straight game over John Carroll, 72-46, Wednesday night and is tied with Capital for second place.   

Sophomore Bella Pecchia (North Ridgeville/North Ridgeville) and senior Annie Bova (Parma Heights/Beaumont) each scored 12 points to lead Mount Union, which never trailed in the game.

Bova leads the team and is second in the OAC with 18.8 ppg. Abby Wemhoff (Kent/Kent Roosevelt) leads the team in rebounds with a total of 153 and averages 6.2 per game.

Wilmington is coming off a 71-63 win over Muskingum Wednesday night. Mackenzie Campbell led the Quakers with 21 points and nine rebounds.

Earlier This Season:  Mount Union's women's basketball team defeated Wilmington, 93-60, in an Ohio Athletic Conference game Saturday, Jan. 9. Mount Union got a game-high 21 points from Bova, Rachel Tinkey (Canfield/Canfield) had 16 while Wemhoff posted a career-high 11 points. Wilmington was led by Campbell with 18 points and seven rebounds.

Coaches:  Suzy Venet is in her 10th season as head women's basketball coach at Mount Union. Since taking over as coach, she has brought the Raiders three OAC Tournament titles, two OAC regular season titles and three-straight trips to the NCAA Tournament including making it to the Sweet 16 in 2010 and 2012.  Venet was named the OAC Coach of the Year in 2011 and 2012 and Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year by both the WBCA and D3Hoops.com in 2010 and 2012.

In his 23 years on the Wilmington sideline, Jerry Scheve has won more than 400 games. Scheve was named the National Coach of the Year after leading the Lady Quakers to the 2003-04 NCAA Division III national championship. The 2003-04 national championship season was preceded by three National Tournament appearances that included trips to the "Elite Eight" and "Sweet 16" in 2002 and 2003, respectively. Wilmington advanced to the second round of the 2007 NCAA Tournament and returned to the NCAA Tournament in 2008.

Up Next: OAC Tournament play begins on Monday, Feb. 23. With a win on Saturday Mount Union clinches a second place spot in the tournament and would host Thursday, Feb. 25.
