ALLIANCE, Ohio - A fourth quarter game-tying layup by junior Erin White (West Chester/Lakota East) sparked a 10-6 run by the Mount Union women's basketball team, leading the Purple Raiders to a 65-59 win over Denison Monday at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.

The Purple Raiders (2-2) got 13 points on three three-pointers from Abbey Bartoszewicz (Wexford, Pa./Vincentian Academy) while Jamie Sanborn (Twinsburg/Twinsburg) and Erin White (West Chester/Lakota East) each had 10 points.

Denison (1-3) was led by Jordan Holmes with 14 points, 19 rebounds and five blocked shots.

A Sanborn layup with 7:10 left in the first quarter gave Mount Union an 8-2 lead, but Denison then out-scored the Raiders 10-4 to lead 18-12 at the end of the period.

Dension then extended that lead to as many as 11 points, 29-18 when Holmes made a layup with 3:45 left before halftime. Mount Union answered with a 12-5 run to close the gap to 34-30 at the break.

The Big Red would push the lead to nine points, 51-42 heading into the fourth quarter.

Mount Union rallied again this time with a 13-2 surge that was capped with a Casey Morrissette (Wakeman/Firelands) layup that made the score 55-53 in favor of the Raiders with 4:43 to play.

Denison would score four straight to retake the lead 57-55 before White's layup with 2:38 to play started the decisive run.

Mount Union next plays at Oberlin Monday, Nov. 28 at 7 p.m. in Oberlin, Ohio.
