WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Mount Union women's basketball team fell to Wilmington 76-56 in its Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) opener Saturday afternoon at Wilmington College.
Wilmington (4-1, 1-0 OAC) was led by Mackenzie Campbell, who recorded 25 points.
Bartoszewicz made a layup and a three-point jumpshot in the first 10 minutes of play, recording half of the Raiders' 10 first-quarter points. Senior Kelsey Scott (New Castle, Pa./New Castle) and sophomore Jaime Sanborn (Twinsburg/Twinsburg) totaled three points from free-throws, while White made a layup. Wilmington went on a 10-4 run with less than five minutes left in the quarter, leaving Mount Union trailing 23-10.
Purple Raider senior Haley Roddy (Medina/Highland) and sophomore Hannah Ferguson (Columbus/Westerville North) recorded four quick points for Mount Union in the first 51 seconds of the second quarter, cutting Wilmington's lead to 11. Scott put an additional seven points on the board for the Raiders in the quarter, but the team still trailed Wilmington 44-27 at the break.
Mount Union cut Wilmington's lead to as little as 10 points in the third quarter, but the Quakers held on to their lead and finished the quarter, and the game, 20 points ahead of the Raiders.
The Purple Raiders next host John Carroll University on Wednesday, Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.
