ALLIANCE, Ohio -- The Mount Union women's basketball team was dropped by Wilmington College in a 56-35 Ohio Athletic Conference match up in the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex Saturday afternoon.
Senior Kelsey Scott (New Castle, Pa./New Castle) led Mount Union (9-10, 4-8 OAC) with seven points and two rebounds.
Wilmington (13-6, 9-3 OAC) was led by Mackenzie Campbell who went nine for nine on free throws and recorded 17 total points.
Mount Union's Abbey Bartoszewicz (Wexford, Pa./Vincentian Academy) and Anna Alkire (Massillon/Jackson) made back-to-back three-pointers to begin the game, giving the Purple Raiders a 6-2 lead just over three minutes into the first quarter. Wilmington took its first lead with 3:58 on the clock, but Mount Union tied the game at eight points just 10 seconds later. The lead changed two additional times in the quarter, leaving the Raiders behind by a score of 18-12 leading into the second period.
A 17-6 second quarter run by Wilmington had the Raiders trailing 35-18 at the break.
The Raiders held Wilmington to just seven points in the third quarter, tallying eight points of their own. Sophomore Jaime Sanborn (Twinsburg/Twinsburg) recorded four points on two layups, while Erin White (West Chester/Lakota East) followed with a layup and free throw.
Mount Union was held to just nine points in the final ten minutes of play, while Wilmington went eight for eight on free throws and put up 14 points total, resulting in a final score of 56-35 in Wilmington's favor.
The Mount Union women's basketball team next travels to Marietta, Ohio on Wednesday, Feb. 1 for an OAC matchup against Marietta at 7:30 p.m.
