AUSTINTOWN, Ohio — The Mount Union women's basketball team has been picked seventh in the 2017-18 Ohio Athletic Conference preseason coaches' poll.
The Purple Raiders received 36 points overall and are followed by Muskingum, Heidelberg and John Carroll. The Raiders return a majority of last season's young leaders who will look to step up and lead the team to be contenders for an OAC title once again. Returning seniors include Corie Inverso (Danville/Danville) and Casey Morrissette (Wakeman/Firelands). They will be accompanied by their younger counterparts: juniors Anna Alkire (Massillon/Jackson), Jaime Sanborn (Twinsburg/Twinsburg) and Rachel Tinkey (Canfield/Canfield). Hot-handed shooting guard Tori Rappach (Warren/Howland) also returns this season, now a sophomore, looking to help motivate the younger lineup.
Ohio Northern was selected first in the poll with 78 points and six first place votes, while Marietta was selected second with 67 points and two first place votes.
The Raiders open their season on Wednesday, November 15 at 7:30 pm in Alliance as they host Oberlin College.
