Women's Basketball: Four Raiders in Double Figures in Win Over Dickinson

WASHINGTON, Pa. – Mount Union women's basketball team defeated Dickinson (Pa.) on the first night of competition in the SpringHill Suites Tournament from Washington & Jefferson College.

With four Purple Raiders in double figures, Mount Union (2-0) was led by Rachel Tinkey's (Canfield/Canfield) career-high tying 17 points, Casey Morrissette (Wakeman/Firelands) who recorded career-highs of 16 points and six rebounds, Tori Rappach's (Warren/Howland) career-highs of 14 points and five rebounds, and Jaime Sanborn (Twinsburg/Twinsburg) who added 12 points.

To start the game, a 9-0 Red Devils start was stopped by a number of key free throws and three-point shots from the Raiders. Mount Union would enter the second quarter trailing 21-17.

Mid-way through the second, four buckets inside the paint helped the Raiders gain their first lead of the night at 26-25 and then again with back to back threes from Rappach to make it a 34-33 Mount Union lead. However, Dickinson was able to sneak in a couple buckets within the last minute of the half to take the lead at 37-34.

Entering the third quarter, the Raiders and Devils continued their back and forth point swing until a 19-5 Raider run supported by four three's from Tinkey allowed the Raiders to launch a 13-point lead over the Devils at 59-46. Shooting 50% from behind the arch, the Raiders entered the fourth with a 66-52 lead after scoring 32 points third quarter points.

Final 10 minutes of the night, Dickinson was able to outscore Mount Union but it wasn't quite enough as the Raiders left with a 78-67 victory.

Mount Union will next face the winner of Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) vs. Hiram on Saturday at 4:00 pm on day two of the SpringHill Suites Tournament.
