ALLIANCE, Ohio - Junior forward Jamie Sanborn (Twinsburg) had a career-high 19 points to lead Mount Union to a 76-62 win over John Carroll in an Ohio Athletic Conference women's basketball game Wednesday at the McPhearson Academic and Athletic Complex.
Three others scored in double figures as Rachel Tinkey (Canfield) had 16, Tori Rappach (Warren/Howland) had 12 and Casey Morrissette (Wakeman/Firelands) with 11 as the Purple Raiders evened their record at 9-9 overall and 6-5 in the OAC.
Mount Union junior guard Anna Alkire (Massillon/Jackson) also had a career-high eight assists.
Nicole Heffington led John Carroll (4-14, 2-9 OAC) with 19 points followed by Kahrin Spear who had 14.
Mount Union hit its first six shots from the floor to jump out to a 19-7 lead. Sanborn had seven of those points. John Carroll would cut the lead to nine at the end of the quarter 26-17.
The Raiders stretched the lead back out to double figures in the second quarter and a Rappach three-pointer with 3:10 left in the half gave Mount Union its largest lead to that point at 41-27. The Raiders led 42-29 at the half.
Mount Union scored eight of the first 10 points of the third quarter, Sanborn had four of those, which pushed the Raider lead out to 50-31. Mount Union maintained its double figure advantage and closed the period up 61-43.
Freshman guard Elena Rauhe (Seven Hills/Padua Franciscan) would find an open look for three with just under eight to play that made it 64-43 and Mount Union cruised to the 76-62 win.
Mount Union will next travel to Wilmington on Saturday, January 27 at 3:00 p.m.
