MARIETTA, Ohio -- No. 3 seed Marietta defeated No. 6 seed Mount Union in the quarterfinals of the Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Tournament, 74-55, Tuesday night at Ban Johnson Arena.
The Purple Raiders were led by senior guard Rachel Tinkey's (Canfield) 19 points and six rebounds in her career finale. Tinkey finished with 1,072 points making her 13th overall in Mount Union women's basketball career scoring.
Fellow senior forward Jaime Sanborn (Twinsburg) also scored in double figures with 11 points and four steals.
Marietta (18-8, 12-6 OAC) was led by Corrie Burkhardt's 21 points and 14 rebounds as they advance to the semifinals.
Tinkey scored the first bucket of the game at 9:23 in the first quarter but the Raiders would not see another lead for the remainder of the game. Marietta posted a 16-3 scoring surge for an 11-point lead over Mount Union heading into the second quarter.
Mount Union was unable to breakdown Marietta's offense as its lead was soon extended to 21-points, 40-19, at the end of the first half.
The Raiders scored 18 points in the third quarter with Tinkey and Sarah Turley (Sagamore Hills/Nordonia) each scoring five to only be matched by Marietta as the Pioneers held onto their 21-point advantage.
Sanborn's eight points in the fourth quarter but the Raiders could not overcome the deficit as Marietta went on to win the game, 74-55.
Mount Union finishes the 2018-19 season with an overall record of 17-9 and an OAC record of 10-8.
