
WOOSTER, Ohio - Mount Union's women's basketball team defeated Wooster 90-73 Sunday afternoon in day two of the Nan Nichols Classic.
The Purple Raiders (3-0) were led by senior Tori Rappach (Warren / Howland) with 26 points, hitting eight three-pointers on her way to tournament most valuable player honors.
Mount Union also got 15 points from junior Sarah Turley (Sagamore Hills / Nordonia) who was also on the all-tournament team while junior Elena Rauhe (Seven Hills / Padua Franciscan) rounded out the double digit scorers with 12 points.
Wooster (1-1) was led by Cat Fiorito with 14 points.
Rappach had 15 points in the first quarter as Mount Union ran out to a 21-9 lead. Wooster rallied in the second quarter but the Raiders kept a 40-31 lead at halftime.
Wooster hit the first bucket of the third quarter to close to 40-33 but Mount Union scored 11 of next 13 points capped by a Turley three-pointer at the 7:02 mark to give the Raiders a 51-35 lead.
Mount Union never looked back pushing that lead to as many as 27 before getting the 17-point win.
The Raiders shot 50-percent from the field making 33-of-66 attempts, and 53.1 percent for 17-of-32 behind the arc.
Mount Union continues play Friday, Nov. 22 at 7 p.m. as they host Juniata (Pa.) in the first day of the M-Club Classic.
