ALLIANCE, Ohio - Mount Union's women's basketball team defeated Juniata (Pa.) 91-67 Friday night in day one of the M-Club Tournament.
The Purple Raiders (4-0) had 13 different players score with junior Elena Rauhe (Seven Hills / Padua Franciscan) hitting five three-pointers to lead all scorers with 21 points.
Freshman Anika Sweeney (Sylvania / Sylvania Northview) scored 13 along with senior Zanny Sauter (Avon) scoring 11.
Juniata (1-2) was led by Gracie Stauffer with a double-double with 18 points, 14 rebounds, and nine blocks.
Junior Brianna Gassman (Minerva) along with Rauhe and Sweeney all had five points to give Mount Union a first quarter lead of 25-12. Mount Union kept the pressure on creating 10 turnovers in the second quarter to take a 43-26 halftime lead.
Juniata hit the first bucket of the third quarter but an 8-0 Mount Union run started by a jumper by senior Tori Rappach (Warren / Howland) gave the Raiders a 51-28 lead.
Mount Union never looked back pushing that lead to as many as 32 before getting the 24-point win.
The Raiders bench outscored Juniata's bench 52-17.
The Raiders shot 38.3-percent from the field making 31-of-81 attempts including 17-of-38 from behind the arc.
Mount Union continues play Saturday, Nov. 23 at 4 p.m. against the winner of Hope/Case Western Reserve game in the championship game of the M-Club Tournament.
