ALLIANCE, Ohio - Mount Union's women's basketball fell to No. 6 ranked Hope (Mich.) 82-48 in the championship game Saturday evening in Timken Gymnasium.
Leading the Purple Raiders (4-1) was senior Tori Rappach (Warren / Howland) with 14 points shooting 5-of-10 from the floor earning her All-Tournament accolades. Joining Rappach on the All-Tournament team was junior Elena Rauhe (Seven Hills / Padua Franciscan).
The Flying Dutch (6-0) were led by junior Sydney Muller with 21 points, earning her tournament MVP.
Mount Union opened the game with a 10-7 run, taking their only lead of the night. Hope responded with a 12-5 surge of their own, ending the first quarter leading 19-15.
The Flying Dutch continued into the second quarter extending their lead 21-15. The Raiders responded with a foul shot by sophomore Isi Palamone (Murrysville, Pa. / Franklin Regional) and a Rappach three-pointer to cut the deficit back to three points, but Hope bounced back with a 16-2 surge giving them a 38-21 lead at the half.
In the third quarter, the Raiders started with a three-pointer from Rappach to bring the score to 38-24. Hope answered with two lay-ups, but back-to-back three-pointers from freshman Anika Sweeney (Sylvania / Sylvania Northview) and two foul shots from Palamone cut the lead to 44-32. The Flying Dutch ended the quarter with a 13-6 surge widening their lead 57-38.
Hope outscored Mount Union 25-10 in the fourth quarter to run away with the 82-48 win.
The Raiders continue play Tuesday, Nov. 26 as they host Kenyon at 7 p.m.
