Women's Basketball: Raiders Winning Streak Stopped at Marietta

MARIETTA, Ohio - The Mount Union women's basketball team dropped Ohio Athletic Conference game to Marietta 80-72 Wednesday evening at the Ban Johnson Arena. 

The Purple Raiders (9-7, 3-6 OAC) were led by junior Elena Rauhe (Seven Hills / Padua Franciscan) with 25 points, four rebounds, and four assists. 

Erin Hahn paced Marietta (8-8, 4-5 OAC) with 16 points and seven rebounds.

Mount Union opened the first quarter with a quick 5-0 lead. The Pioneers responded with a 7-0 run to take their first lead of the game 7-5. Freshman Kelsie Glass (Green) hit a three-pointer to regain the advantage for the Raiders 8-7. Marietta retaliated once again with a 6-0 surge to make the score 13-8. Rauhe hit five straight points to tie the game, 13-13, with 1:31 left in the period. The Pioneers ended the first quarter with a 4-2 run, taking the lead 17-15.

Marietta grabbed the first two points of the second quarter, but junior Sarah Turley (Sagamore Hills / Nordonia) hit a lay-up that sparked a 5-0 run giving the Raiders the 20-19 advantage. The Pioneers bounced back with an 11-5 surge taking their largest lead of the first half at 31-25 with 3:06 remaining. The Raiders ended the quarter with a 5-3 run to bring the score back within four points to head into halftime. 

Marietta extended their lead 60-47 outscoring Mount Union 26-17 in the third quarter. 

Rauhe hit a three-pointer at the 8:45 mark in the final quarter to cut the Pioneers lead down to 12, 62-50. Marietta widened its lead with a 10-4 run, but the Raiders bounced back with a 14-2 surge led by Rauhe to get the game back within six point with 1:40 left to play. The Pioneers ended the quarter with a 6-2 run taking the 80-72 win.

Mount Union will continue OAC play hosting Wilmington Saturday, Jan. 25 at 3 p.m.
