AUSTINTOWN, Ohio—In what has become a weekly routine during the 2011-12 golf season, Mount Union senior Mary Snode (Alliance/Marlington) was named Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Golfer of the Week on Monday.
Snode claimed medalist honors at this weekend's Capital Purple & White Invitational at Foxfire Golf Club in Lockbourne. After shooting a 72 in the opening round to take a six-stroke lead into Saturday, she carded a 74 in the second round to post a 36-hole score of two-over-par (144). Snode finished seven strokes of Jessica Layman (Bethel, Ind.), who was in second place.
This was the eighth straight event that Snode has won this academic year dating back to the fall. She has won 16 different events throughout her four-year collegiate career.
Snode has now won the award six times this season, including the past two weeks. Entering the week, her season average was 76.9, which was just over eight strokes fewer than the next closest golfer in the OAC.
Mount Union will hit the links next when they play in the Westminster Invitational at New Castle Country Club in New Castle, Pa. on April 9th.
