Snode to Compete at NCAA Women’s Golf Championships
INDIANPOLIS, Ind.—Senior Mary Snode (Alliance/Marlington) received an individual at-large bid to the 2012 NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championships on the campus of Trine University in Angola, Indiana from May 8-11 when the field of 101 golfers was announced Monday evening.
Snode took Dr. John Piper Medalist honors at the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships by four strokes this past weekend and has finished first at all 11 events she has participated in during her senior season.
The fifth-ranked golfer in the nation with an average score of 77.4, Snode was rewarded with one of six individual at-large bids. The tournament will have a total of 101 competitors and consists of 11 teams that received automatic bids for winning their conference tournament, eight teams that received at-large bids, and six individuals who are not members of a team that has received a bid.
Snode joins Meghan Glass as the only Mount Union women's golfers to participate in the NCAA Championships. Glass made three appearances at the championships. She finished third in 2002, tied for 30th in 2001, and tied for 31st in 2000.
At the Mount Union Spring Invitational, Snode carded a school-record 69 in the second round. That is tied for the second-lowest round in the Division III this season.
Baldwin-Wallace will also represent the OAC after receiving an automatic team bid for winning the conference tournament.
The 2012 NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championships, which consists of 72 holes, will begin next Tuesday, May 8 and conclude Friday, May 11.
