Women's Golf Places Third at Phipps Invite

ALLIANCE, Ohio -- The Mount Union women's golf team placed third at the Phipps Invitational at the Alliance Country Club in Alliance, Ohio, on Thursday afternoon.

Walsh University (374) won the tournament, which also featured the Purple Raiders and Malone University.  Mount Union shot a 431 as a team, while Malone checked in with a 429 on Alliance Country Club's Par-72, 5800-yard layout.

Sophomore Lexi Scala (Aliquippa, Pa./Central Valley) led all Mount Union golfers and finished in a tie for fifth place after shooting a 97.  Junior Shae Fender's (Wadsworth/Wadsworth) 111 placed her in a tie for 10th with teammate Ashlee Marvin (Wadsworth/Wadsworth) and Roxi Hoch (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) finished in a tie for 13th with a 112.

Walsh's Jenny Tsangeos shot an 81 and won the event by nine strokes.

Mount Union next competes at the Notre Dame College Invitational in Concord, Ohio, to wrap up its fall season.
