Women's Golf: Mount Union Finishes 16th at NCAA Championships

HOUSTON, Texas -- Mount Union finished in 16th place at the NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championships at the Bay Oaks Country Club in Houston, Texas. 

Friday's fourth and final round was cancelled due to weather so the Purple Raiders finished with a team score of 1007 (337-341-329) over the 54 completed holes which left them six shots back of 15th place Hanover (Ind.).

Rhodes (Tenn.) won its second national title as the Lynx finished with a three-day total of 312-298-294=904 and won by 15 strokes over U.T.-Tyler's second place total of 303-311-305=919.

Caroline Ordian of Redlands (Calif.) won individual medalist honors after carding a 73-70-75=218 as she was one stroke ahead of Macy Hubbard of Wittenberg and her second-place total of 69-71-79=219.

The top Mount Union player was sophomore Olivia DeMartino (Canfield/Canfield) who finished a tie for 57th place overall with a 245 (87-79-79).

"This week has meant the world to me; having the chance to play at a beautiful course with the best teammates in the world is priceless, stated DeMartino. "I could not have done it without the love and support from my parents and both Coach MacDuffie and Coach Sindlinger."

Junior Morgan Rector (Trafford, Pa./Penn Trafford) was five shots back of DeMartino with a 250 (82-87-81) in 71st place.

"This was an unbelievable experience that I will never forget, commented Rector. "I feel as though we made a positive impact for the golf program and can not wait to see what next year brings us. We are also very thankful for all the support we've received and it was a great week to be a Raider!"
