Women's Golf: Raiders 20th After First Day of NCAA Championships

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. -- Mount Union's women's golf team holds 20th place after day one of the Division III NCAA Women's Golf Championships at the Mission Inn Resort and Club on Tuesday in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.

The Purple Raiders carded a 367 on day one, which is six shots behind 19th place St. Mary's College (Ind.) and three shots ahead of21st place Gettysburg (Pa.) College.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (Calif.) and Williams (Mass.) are tied for the lead of the 25-team field after each team had a 311 on day one.

Mount Union was led by sophomore Morgan Stubbendieck (Akron/Hoban) who fired an 88 that included a near ace on the par-3 12th as she hit it within a few inches. Seniors Olivia DeMartino (Canfield) carded a 90 while Allison Pastor (Sagamore Hills/Nordonia) had a 94.

Sophomore Rachel Markle (Solon) and freshman Emma Jeffries (Wooster) rounded out the five for the Purple Raiders with scores of 95 and 102, respectively.

Charlotte Simpson of Carnegie Mellon (Pa.) is the day one leader on the individual side after shooting an even par 73.

Mount Union plays 18 holes Wednesday and Thursday and will need to be among the top 15 teams to play in Friday's final round.
