Mount Union has named Bill Kirkwood head coach and Olivia Demartino assistant coach of the Purple Raiders men's and women's golf programs.
Kirkwood has been an assistant coach for both teams each of the last two years. Over those two seasons, he helped lead Mount Union to a pair of Ohio Athletic Conference women's golf championships and two NCAA Tournament appearances while the men's golf team posted a second place finish in the conference over that span.
Golf has always been a part of Kirkwood's life as he caddied at Oakwood Country Club in Cleveland as a boy then later as an adult helped teach youth the game in the junior program at Riceland Golf Course.
Bill, a controller of a manufacturing company in Ashland, and his wife Susan reside in Wooster, Ohio with their shih tzus Winston and Maxwell.
Demartino played four years of golf for the Raiders and was part of a team that won three straight OAC championships with three NCAA Tournament appearances. She was a two-time Academic All-OAC selection and an All-OAC with a fifth place finish at the OAC championship her senior season.
The Canfield, Ohio, native graduated with a bachelor's degree in German and International Affairs and is currently pursuing a master's degree at the University of Akron.
