Women's Golf: Kirkwood Named OAC Women's Golf Coach of the Year

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio -- Mount Union head women's golf coach Bill Kirkwood has been named Ohio Athletic Conference Coach of the Year. 

Kirkwood, in his first season as head coach, led the Purple Raiders to their fourth straight OAC title with an OAC Tournament record 54-hole total of 993 which was 47 shots ahead of second place Capital. 

Kirkwood is the sixth head coach in program history to be selected to OAC Coach of the Year honors and was an assistant coach for the Purple Raiders two year prior to taking over the women's program. Over those two seasons, he helped lead Mount Union to a pair of Ohio Athletic Conference women's golf championships and two NCAA Tournament appearances.

Golf has always been a part of Kirkwood's life as he caddied at Oakwood Country Club in Cleveland as a boy then later as an adult helped teach youth the game in the junior program at Riceland Golf Course.

Bill and his wife Susan reside in Wooster, Ohio with their shih tzus Winston and Maxwell.
