ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Mount Union's women's golf team will play in the 2019 NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship May 14-17 at Bay Oaks Golf Club in Houston, Texas.
A total of 25 teams and six individuals will participate in the tournament.
Twenty-one conferences have been granted automatic qualification and the remaining four teams were selected on an at-large basis from conferences and the independent institutions. Six individuals, not from selected teams, also were selected for the championships.
The championships will consist of both team and individual competition conducted concurrently. Following 54 holes of competition, the field will be cut to the top 15 teams and top six individuals not on one of those teams to compete the final day. In the team competition, the low four scores from each team for each day will count in the team's total score.
The Purple Raiders who won the Ohio Athletic Conference Championship this year for the fourth consecutive time that earned them an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Mount Union set an OAC tournament record with a 54-hole total of 993 (339-325-329) which was 47 shots ahead of second place Capital.
The Raiders had four players earn All-OAC honors led by junior Rachel Markle (Solon) as she shot a 241 (84-78-79) for first place which also marked the fifth time and fourth Raider to win the conference's individual title.
Along with Markle, three other Mount Union players earned all-conference honors with top-14 finishes at the OAC Championship. Junior Morgan Stubbendieck (Akron / Hoban) was in third place with a 249 (82-83-84), senior Erica Mawhorr (Zanesville / West Muskingum) had a 254 (93-81-80) in seventh place and sophomore Emma Jeffries (Wooster) had a 259 (90-83-86) in a tie for 10th place.
