HOUSTON, Texas -- Mount Union's women's golf team holds 22nd place after day one of the Division III NCAA Women's Golf Championships Tuesday at the Bay Oaks Country Club.
The Purple Raiders carded a 357 on day one, which was two shots behind 20th place Gettysburg College and Drew University.
The University of Redlands are in the lead of the 25-team field after scoring a 306 on day one.
Mount Union was led by junior Rachel Markle (Solon) who fired an 86 while fellow classmate Morgan Stubbendieck (Akron / Hoban) finished two strokes behind her with an 88.
Sophomores Emma Jeffries (Wooster) and Brianna Potts (Apple Creek / Waynedale) finished within a stroke of each other recording a 91 and 92 respectively.
Junior Erica Mawhorr (Zanesville / West Muskingum) rounded out the five for the Raiders with a score of 97.
Bailey Plourde of Centre College was the day one leader on the individual side after shooting a 71.
Mount Union plays 18 holes Wednesday for the second day of the NCAA Championships with an 8:50 a.m. tee time at Bay Oaks Golf Club.
