Women’s Lacrosse Falls In Season Opener To Oberlin 8-7

ALLIANCE, Ohio -  Mount Union's women's lacrosse team lost its first game in program history in an 8-7 loss to Oberlin Saturday at Mount Union Stadium.

The Purple Raiders (0-1) were led by freshman Kendyl Stone (Brunswick/Brunswick) who totaled three points in the loss with a goal and two assists. The freshman trio of Emily Bergert (North Canton/ Hoover), Ashley Christensen (Champlin, MInn./Champlin Park) and Susie Kraus (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) each had two points on the day.

The Yeowomen (1-0) had four record two points on the game. Sophomore Bronwen Schumacher, junior Sarah Andrews and freshman Grace Barlow each chipped in with two goals as senior Ilyssa Meyer had a goal and an assist.

Christensen scored the first-ever goal for the women's lacrosse program in the first half at the 15:32 mark before freshman Kolbie Haines (Hudson/Hudson) and Stone scored at the 5:32 mark and 5:03 mark respectively in the first half.

Mount Union would be down by two off of Barlow's two goals at the 25:33 mark and 19:00 mark before Christensen netted her first at 15:32. Oberlin would answer back with three more goals, two from Andrews and one from Meyer before Haines and Stone put two in for the Raiders bringing the score to 5-3 with just less than four minutes to play in the half.

Oberlin would get another goal before the break from junior Hannah Christainsen taking the 6-3 lead to the locker room.

Mount Union would come out of the locker room and score three unanswered goals from the combination of Bergert (Two) and Christensen (one, second of the game) tying the game at six with 17:15 remaining.

The Yeowomen would go up by one at the 8:13 mark when Bronwen scored the first of her two goals. The Raiders would tie the game again with a goal from freshman Anna Lano (Chaska,Minn./Chanhassen) with 5:53 remaining. Bronwen would net her second of the game as the Yeo Women would go on to the 8-7 victory.

Mount Union next plays Tuesday, March 5 at against Thiel in Greenville, Pa.
