Women's Lacrosse: Purple Raiders Defeat Heidelberg To Clinch OAC Title

ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Mount Union's women's lacrosse team beat Heidelberg 25-1 Saturday to win the Ohio Athletic Conference regular season title and clinch the top seed in next week's OAC Tournament.

The Purple Raiders, who have all four regular season titles in conference history, finish the regular season schedule with an 11-3 overall record and 7-1 in the conference. Heidelberg finishes its inaugural season at 0-12 overall and 0-8 in the OAC.

Mount Union was led by sophomore Ashley Bernardi (Medina/Medina), who scored five goals and 1 assist in the contest. She was followed by senior Shannon Ellsworth (Boardman/Cardinal Mooney), who tallied four goals and an assist. Heidelberg's lone goal was scored by Dana Dudley.  

The Raiders outscored Heidelberg 20-1 in the first half. Nine players scored goals, with Bernardi leading the team with five. Senior defender Amy Slusher (Kingsville, Md./John Carroll) notched two goals, her first points of the season. Fifteen of the 20 goals scored were assisted, five of which were recorded by junior Katie Elder (Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park).

Mount Union was held to five goals in the second half, two of which were scored by sophomore Lisa Dalman (Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park). 

The Raiders will host an opponent yet to be determined on Wednesday, May 3 at 7 p.m. at Mount Union Stadium.
