ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Mount Union sophomore Ashley Bernardi (Medina/Medina) scored a season-high six goals to lead the Purple Raiders to a 14-11 win over Calvin (Mich.) in the second round of the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship Saturday evening at Mount Union Stadium.

Mount Union, which has now won a game in each of its four NCAA Tournament appearances, advances to the round of 16 next weekend where it will play the winner of a second round game between No. 1 ranked The College of New Jersey and Farmingdale State (N.Y.) at a time and place to be announced.

In addition to leading the team in scoring, Bernardi tabbed two assists for a total of eight points and recorded four ground balls.

Calvin (12-6) opened the first half with back-to-back goals to take a 2-0 early lead.

Freshman Danielle Rohrman (Olney, Md./Sherwood) cut the lead in half when she scored the Raiders' (14-3) first goal of the game with just over 23 minutes left on the clock.

The Knights scored another goal before Mount Union responded with three straight goals, two of which came from Rohrman, to take its first lead of the game, 4-3.

Mount Union fell two goals behind Calvin again after the Knights scored three goals in less than two minutes.

Bernardi then scored her first and second goals of the game, while junior Katie Elder (Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park) added one of her own, to put Mount Union ahead again, 7-6.

Both Calvin and Mount Union tallied two additional goals in the half, putting the Raiders ahead by one at the break, 9-8.

Bernardi scored again in the first minute of the second half before Calvin scored twice to tie the game at 10-10.

Alyssa Rydell (Medina/Medina) gave the Raiders the lead for good with just over 12 minutes left in the game.

Bernardi notched another score less than two minutes later to push the lead back up to two -- 12-10.

Calvin tried to rally again with a score with 9:31 to play but Britt Klosterman (Centennial, Colo. / Arapahoe) and Bernardi each got goals to close out the game for the 14-11 final.
