ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Mount Union junior Ashley Bernardi (Medina) scored a school single-game record eight goals in the Purple Raiders 18-6 victory over Kenyon Wednesday at Mount Union Stadium.
Bernardi, who also had two assists to tie another school single-game record with 10 points, while Marjie McNamara (Champlin, Minn. Champlin Park) scored four goals and Katie Elder (Champlin, Minn. / Champlin Park) scored three as a total five Raiders to scored to improve the record to 2-0 on the season.
Maggie Grabowski scored three goals to lead Kenyon (1-3).
The Raiders found themselves in a 2-0 hole as Kenyon got on the board twice in the game's opening 1:20. Mount Union found its footing defensively while back-to-back goals from Elder tied the game and started a four-goal run that turned the game into a 4-2 Raider lead with 19:34 left in the first half.
Kenyon got a goal from Grabowski to make it 4-3 but the Raiders tallied seven straight goals -- four from Bernardi -- to lead 11-3 at the break.
Bernardi scored two more times in the first four minutes of the second half to extend the lead to 13-3. Mount Union outscored Kenyon 5-3 the rest of the way capped by Bernardi's record goal with 7:19 to play.
The Raiders forced 23 turnovers and out-shot Kenyon 38-12.
Mimi Curtis (Lititz, Pa. / Manheim Township) picked up her second win in goal with five saves for Mount Union.
The Raiders next play at DePauw (Ind.) Saturday March 10 at 1 p.m. in Greencastle, Ind.
