Women's Lacrosse: Raiders Win Key OAC Game at John Carroll

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – Mount Union's women's lacrosse team scored a 16-13 win over John Carroll in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup Wednesday at Don Shula Stadium.

Both teams were undefeated on the season and the game featured nine ties and four lead changes as Purple Raiders are now 10-0 overall and 3-0 in the OAC while John Carroll falls to 8-1 overall and 1-1 in the OAC.

Ashley Bernardi (Medina) and Danielle Rohrman (Olney, Md. / Sherwood) each had four goals and three assists while Kenzie Penysl (Kent / Roosevelt) and Katie Elder (Champlin, Minn. / Champlin Park) both had three goals to pace the Mount Union offense.

Grace Curatolo had thee goals and four assists to lead John Carroll.

John Carroll scored just 14 seconds into the game but Mount Union rallied with goals from Bernardi and Pensyl to take a 2-1 lead with 26:12 to play in the period. The Blue Streaks scored three straight goals over the next six minutes to take a 4-2 lead.

Mount Union surged back in front with four straight goals with scores from McNamara and Bernardi then two straight from Elder to lead 6-4 at the 11:03 mark but John Carroll came back with four of its own to go back out in front with 5:05 left.

Rohrman netted a goal with 2:40 left before halftime that got the Raiders to within a score, 8-7.

The first 11 minutes of the second half featured two more ties ere were two more ties and the Raiders ended up taking the lead for good on a Bernardi goal with 23:58 to play.

John Carroll tied the game back up with a goal two minutes later and both teams add goals before the Raiders retook the lead 13-12 with a goal from Sydney Bumbarger with 11:28 to play.

Mount Union then took its largest lead of the game with back-to-back goals from Bernardi and Pensyl to lead 15-12 with eight minutes left. Both teams each scored one more goal for the 16-13 final.

Mount Union is back in action Saturday, April 7 at 1 p.m. in an OAC game at Otterbein in Westerville.
