WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Mount Union's women's lacrosse team ran past Otterbein, 24-6 in an Ohio Athletic Conference game Saturday in Westerville.
The Purple Raiders, now 11-0 overall and 4-0 in the OAC, were led by Marjie McNamara (Champlin, Minn. / Champlin Park) who matched her season-high with six goals. Mount Union also got four goals each from Danielle Rohrman (Olney, Md. / Sherwood), Sydney Bumbarger (Newbury Park, Calif.) and Kenzie Pensyl (Kent / Roosevelt). Katie Elder (Champlin, Minn. / Champlin Park) also had a goal and five assists.
Abby Smoot had three goals to pace Otterbein (6-7, 2-2 OAC).
McNamara scored between a pair Ashley Bernardi (Medina) goals and the Raiders took a 3-0 lead just 2:40 into the contest. McNamara scored another goal a minute later before Otterbein got on the board to make it 4-1 with 25:43 left in the period. Mount Union scored four more goals from Bumbarger, Rohrman, McNamara and Pensyl to extend the lead to 8-1 before Otterbein scored again to leave the score 8-2 with 22:49 left before halftime. The same four along with Elder each scored in a 9-1 run by the Raiders to finish the half and make the lead 17-3 at the break.
Mount Union outscored Otterbein 7-3 in the second half for the 24-6 final.
The Raiders return home next Saturday for an OAC game against Capital at 1 p.m. at Mount Union Stadium. Mount Union's senior class will be honored prior to the start of the contest.
