ALLIANCE, Ohio –Mount Union's women's lacrosse team picked up a key Ohio Athletic Conference win with a 15-10 win over Capital Saturday at Mount Union Stadium.
Mount Union got five goals from Ashley Bernardi (Medina) and four from Danielle Rohrman (Olney, Md. / Sherwood). Bernardi now has 51 goals on the season as the Purple Raiders are now 12-0 on the season and in control of the OAC race at 5-0.
Kathryn Walton and Taylor Thomas each had four goals for Capital that now stands 10-2 overall and 3-2 in the OAC.
Mount Union seniors Anna Bauhof (York, Pa. / York Catholic), Katie Elder (Champlin, Minn. / Champlin Park), Britt Klosterman (Centennial, Colo. / Arapahoe) and Marjie McNamara (Champlin, Minn. / Champlin Park) were honored before the game. The class now has a 61-9 record over the past three-plus seasons with three straight OAC regular season and tournament titles.
Mount Union got on the board first at the 26:49 mark as Elder assisted on a goal by Alyssa Rydell (Medina) to give the Raiders a 1-0. Capital tied the game a little over 2:30 later on a man-up goal from Walton.
Both teams scored in the span of 41 seconds to tie the game at 2-2 as Rohrman scored first for the Raiders before Walton scored again for the Crusaders. Rohrman put Mount Union back out in front with a goal with 18 minutes left in the half and again Capital tied it up on a man-up goal this time from Taylor Barclay.
Mount Union took the lead again this time on a free position shot from Bernardi and again Capital tied it up on Walton's third goal of the game, 4-4 with 12:37 left in the period.
Capital took its first lead of the game at the 10:52 mark on a score from Thomas but Mount Union tied back up less than two minutes later as Bernardi scored her second of the game.
Sydney Bumbarger got the Raiders up again 6-5 as she scored with just over eight minutes left in the half. Capital answered again with a pair of goals to retake the lead – a free position goal from Makenna Ozenghar and a score from Thomas.
The game was tied up for a seventh time when Elder scored on a feed from Bernardi but Capital scored on Walton's fourth goal of the game to lead 8-7 at the break.
Mount Union opened the second half with four-straight goals -- Rohrman notched her third goal of the game 2:38 into the period, then Bernardi scored her third of the game along with scores from Kenzie Pensyl and McNamara as the Raiders took their largest lead of the game, 11-8, with 22:06 left.
Thomas broke up the Raider scoring run with her third score of the game but Mount Union went got back to back goals from Rohrman and Bernardi, each their fourth of the game as Mount Union now leads 13-9 with 12:16 to play.
Capital made it 13-10 as Thomas scored and McNamara scored for Mount Union to put the lead back to four goals, 14-10 with 4:47 to play.
Bernardi finished the scoring with a man-up goal with 2:38 left to play.
Mount Union is back in action with an OAC game next Saturday at 1 p.m. at Muskingum.
