ALLIANCE, Ohio – Mount Union's women's lacrosse team clinched at least a share of their fifth straight Ohio Athletic Conference title with a 22-5 win over Baldwin Wallace Wednesday at Mount Union Stadium.
The Purple Raiders, now 14-0 overall and 7-0 in the OAC, have won every conference title the OAC has sponsored since beginning the sport in 2014. Mount Union has also locked up the No. 1 seed in next week's OAC Tournament and will host a semifinal game Wed., May 2 at Mount Union Stadium.
Ashley Bernardi (Medina) had a record-setting day in leading the Purple Raiders as she scored seven goals with six assists for a school single-game record 13 points. She now has 105 points on the season which is also school single-season record.
Brie Martineau had two goals in the loss for Baldwin Wallace (7-9, 5-3 OAC).
Baldwin Wallace had a 1-0 lead with a score just 14 seconds into the game. Mount Union answered to tie the game with Bernardi's first goal just 94 seconds later and it started a run of eight-straight goals as the Raiders took an 8-1 lead with 17:48 left in the half.
BW got a goal from Matineau before Mount Union scored four-straight – the last two from Rohrman to take a 10-goal lead, 12-2, at the 8:51 mark of the period. The Jackets scored back-to-back goals to close the gap to 12-4 before the Raiders finished the period with two more goals – the final one was Bernardi's sixth of the game to take a 14-4 halftime lead.
Mount Union scored eight of the nine second half goals for the 22-5 final.
The Raiders finish the regular season with an OAC game at Heidelberg Saturday, April 28 at 1 p.m. in Tiffin.
