WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Mount Union's women's lacrosse team scored a 16-6 win at Otterbein in the Ohio Athletic Conference opener Saturday in Westerville.
Danielle Rohrman (Olney, Md. / Sherwood) had five goals and an assist, Ashley Bernardi (Medina) had four goals and three assists and Sydney Bumbarger (Newbury Park, Calif.) had three goals and two assists to lead the Purple Raiders, who are now 6-1 overall and 1-0 in the OAC.
Julia Karas scored a goal and had four assists for Otterbein (2-7, 0-1 OAC).
Rohrman got the Raiders started with a score 38 seconds into the contest and a Mckenna Tubbs (Stow / Stow-Munroe Falls) goal gave the Raiders a 2-0 lead with 26:47 left in the first half. Karas got Otterbein on the board at the 20:53 mark to make it 2-1. Mount Union then scored nine straight goals – three from Bumbarger, two more from Rohrman, two from Bernardi then one each from Alyssa Rydell (Medina) and Sammie Batsista (North Canton / Hoover) to lead 11-1 at the break.
Rohrman scored two more goals and Bernardi had a score in the opening seven minutes of the second half to push the lead to 14-1. Otterbein tallied five of the game's final seven goals of the game while the Mount Union scores during that stretch came from Kaitlyn Murphy (Lexington, Va. / Rockbridge County) and Bernardi.
Mount Union next hosts Walsh in the final non-conference game of the season Wednesday, March 27 at 7 p.m. at Mount Union Stadium.
