ALLIANCE, Ohio – This time no comeback was needed as top seeded Mount Union never trailed in a 17-9 win over No. 2 seed Capital in the championship game of the Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Lacrosse Tournament on a rainy Saturday night at Mount Union Stadium.
A week ago, the Purple Raiders rallied from a four-goal deficit and scored the game winner in the closing seconds in a 10-9 win over Capital in the closing seconds to take the OAC regular season title.
Mount Union (17-1), now winners of 16-staight games, claim its sixth OAC Tournament title and with it the automatic bid to next week's NCAA Tournament.
Danielle Rohrman (Olney, Md. / Sherwood) and Sydney Bumbarger (Newbury Park, Calif.) each had a game-high six goals, Kenzie Pensyl (Kent / Roosevelt) had three while Ashley Bernardi (Medina) and Alyssa Rydell (Medina) each had one to pace the Raider offense.
Brooke Delara scored two goals and had an assist to lead Capital (11-6).
The Crusaders did take a 1-0 lead but Mount Union responded with four unanswered --- three from Bumbarger and one from Rohrman – to make it 4-1 with 22:38 left in the half. Capital scored two of the next three goals to close to within two at 5-3 at the 17:12 mark Bernardi scored for Mount Union just over two minutes later and it started a 4-0 run by the Raiders to close out the half and put the score at 9-3.
Rohman scored again in the opening minute of the second half to push the lead to 10-3. Capital mounted a rally with four goals to close the gap to 10-7 with 21:18 to play. Rohrman got back on the board 42 seconds later and scored three times in a 5-0 Mount Union run to take its largest lead of the game, 15-7. Capital
