Women's Lacrosse: Raiders Knocked Off by #10 Catholic in NCAA Second Round

ALLIANCE, Ohio – Mount Union was defeated by No. 10 ranked Catholic (D.C) 16-6 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament Sunday at Mount Union Stadium.

Catholic (17-4) moves on to next week's regionals (round of 16) while the Purple Raiders (17-2) see their season and a 26-game home field win streak come to an end.

Danielle Rohrman (Olney, Md. / Sherwood) and Sydney Bumbarger (Newbury Park, Calif.) each scored two goals for Mount Union, that was making its sixth NCAA Tournament appearance in just its seventh year of existence.

Julia Clementi scored four goals, three in the first half, to pace Catholic, that reaches the regional semifinals for a sixth straight season.

Catholic used speed and pressure defense to jump out to a 7-0 lead over the game's first 25 minutes. Clementi scored three times, Jess Lyons twice with scores from Molly Monaghan and a man-up goal from Megan Ellis.

The Raiders got on the board when Rohrman hit a free position goal then two minutes later Bumbarger scored off a pass from Bernardi and Mount Union closed the deficit to 7-2 with 2:29 left. Catholic answered with a Caitlyn Bowles goal just over a minute before halftime and the Cardinals led 8-2 at the break.

Mount Union started the second half with a score as Alyssa Rydell (Medina) but Catholic responded again with a goal from Anna Maupin and the Cardinals led 9-3 with 25:13 to play. Bumbarger scored her second of the game off a pass from Kenzie Pensyl (Kent / Roosevelt) and again the Cardinals matched as Ally Criscuolo scored and Clementi got her fourth of the game to extend the Catholic lead to 11-4 with 20:27 remaining. Rohrman came back three minutes later to tally her second goal of the game and school single season record matching 80 goals to make it 11-5. Catholic tacked on four more goals with a scores from Maupin, Ellis and two from Claire Richards which made it 15-5. Mount Union's Ashley Bernardi (Medina) put one in the net with 2:18 while Catholic got one from Ellis in the final minute for the 16-6 final.
