ALLIANCE, Ohio-- Mount Union's women's lacrosse team beat Allegheny (Pa.) 18-9 on a rainy Tuesday night at Mount Union Stadium.
Danielle Rohrman (Olney, Md. / Sherwood) had five goals and three assists, Sydney Bumbarger (Newbury Park, Calif.) had four goals while Mackenzie Pensyl (Kent / Roosevelt) and McKenzie Lewis (Hudson / Walsh Jesuit) each had three goals for the Purple Raiders (2-0).
Mount Union out shot Allegheny (1-1) 42-26 and Raider goalkeeper Molly McGinnis (Brunswick) had 13 saves.
Allegheny got out to a 1 goal lead until Rohrman scored three straight goals in less than three minutes to take a 3-1 lead. Four different Raiders scored in the first half with Lewis, Bumbarger, then Kaitlyn Murphy (Lexington, Va. / Rockbridge County) scored along with Rohrman adding another goal gave Mount Union a 7-3 lead at the half.
Allegheny scored the first two goals of the second half to pull within two. Mount Union scored the next three goals as Bumbarger scored one and Pensyl scored two for a lead of 10-5. Allegheny once again finished two goals. The five ladies that had scored before and Madi Karr (Newark Charter, Del. / Newark Charter) joined to produce six different Raiders scoring on a 6-0 run to lengthen the scored to 16-7. Allegheny and Mount Union added two more goals apiece for the final.
Mount Union is back in action Saturday, Mar. 7 at 2 p.m. playing Kalamazoo (Mich.).
