Wrestling Beats Thiel to Win Home Opener

Mount Union won six weight classes but did not put the match away until senior Mike Manypenny (Salem/Salem) scored a major decision at 174 and sophomore Andy Jenkins (Stow/Woodridge) edged out an 8-7 win at 184 to give the Raiders a commanding 22-7 lead.

Thiel (0-1) would try to rally with wins at 197 and 285 but got no closer than 22-14.

Freshman Riki Reynolds (Marion/Marion Pleasant) at 125, sophomore Jeremy Regula (Dundee/Claymont) at 149 and sophomore John Piechuta (Alliance/Marlington) at 165 each tallied wins while sophomore Bryan Skoff (St. Clairsville/Bridgeport) scored a pin at 157 as the other wins for the Raiders.

Mount Union next hits the mat Sunday at the Buckeye State Duals on the campus of The Ohio State University in Columbus.
