Mount Union To Hold Annual Halloween Costume Practice

ALLIANCE, Ohio--If you see what looks like some oversized trick-or-treaters running near the University of Mount Union campus Friday afternoon, don't be suprised as the Purple Raider wrestling team will hold its annual Halloween practice in costume.

The unique annual workout was the idea of fourth year head coach Mark Hawald.

"I want us to have a good a workout, but have some fun as well," commented Hawald.  "There is a lesson here for our guys.  If you can't laugh at yourself or take yourself too seriously, how will you handle a big loss or setback."

The Raiders, who finished second in the Ohio Athletic Conference a year ago, will begin the workout with a costume contest in the wrestling room within the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex Friday at 4 pm.

Then the costumed Raiders will do a quick run around the neighborhood surrounding the University campus before completing the workout in the Gulling Training Center.

Mount Union's 2010-11 season begins on Saturday, Nov. 13 at the Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) Open.
