Wrestling Moves Up To No. 9 in National Poll; Raiders Wrestling in Chicago This Weekend

The University of Mount Union wrestling team moved up to No. 9 in the National Wrestling Coaches Association Brute/Adidas National Rankings this week.  The Purple Raiders travel this weekend to the Pete Willson Invitational at Wheaton College in suburban Chicago.

The Pete Willson Invitational is one of the premier college wrestling events in the nation as nine nationally ranked teams including Mount Union will compete at the event.

No. 2 Wisconsin-LaCrosse, No. 8 Olivet (Mich.), No. 16 Ohio Northern, No. 19 North Central (Ill.), No. 20 Wabash (Ind.), No. 21 Wisconsin-Whitewater, No. 22 Elizabethtown (Pa.) and No. 24 Elmhurst (Ill.) are all part of the 31-team field.

Mount Union returns to dual meet action next Tuesday (Feb. 1) at defending Ohio Athletic Conference champion Heidelberg in a key conference match at 7:30 pm in Tiffin.

Schindel and Reynolds Nationally Ranked
Mount Union senior Bill Schindel at 197 and sophomore Riki Reynolds at 125 also moved up in the national individual rankings.  Schindel, a two-time All-American, is now ranked No. 3 at 197 and is a perfect 18-0 this season.  Reynolds, who won the 125 pound OAC title and advanced to the NCAA Championships, is now ranked No. 6 and is 14-5 on the season.

Training Facility To Be Dedicated to Gorman
The athletic training facility within the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex at Mount Union will be named in honor of director of the athletic training program Dan Gorman.  Gorman was tragically killed in an accident involving the bus bringing the wrestling team back from Ohio Northern on Tuesday, Jan. 11.
