Wrestling Competes In Mount Union Duals Saturday

Mount Union's wrestling team hosts the Mount Union Duals Saturday, Nov. 17 at 11 am at The MAAC on campus.

Teams: Mount Union, Notre Dame College, Washington and Jefferson (Pa.), Messiah (Pa.), Gettysburg (Pa.), Thiel (Pa.), Muskingum

Format: Each team will wrestle 4 dual meets.

Mount Union Duals Preview

 Mount Union is coming off its first event of the year last Saturday (Nov. 10) when it competed in the Mount Union invitational and placed second with 141 points. Senior Jeremy Regula (Dundee/Claymont) defeated teammate junior Joe Schindel (Tallmadge/Akron Hoban) to capture the title at 165 lbs.

The last time Purple Raiders hosted the Mount Union duals was in the 2010-11 season and went 4-0 with victories over King's College, Pa (39-6), Lycoming College, Pa (26-12), Wilkes University, Pa (22-15), and Thiel Pa, 25-14.

Sophomore Alex Poinar (Uniontown/North Canton Hoover) finished second in the 125 lb weight class. He advanced to the finals, but was defeated by Ian Ross of Lake Erie College with a 7-1 decision.

Freshman Jeremy Border(Caldwell/Caldwell) was impressive in his collegiate wrestling debut with a third place finish at 133 lbs. Border defeated Cole Nace (West Liberty University) by a 7-5 decision in the third place match.

Sophomore Pete Hughes (Newark/Utica) pinned Kevin Brunner (Lake Erie College) at the 4:14 mark for a fifth place finish at 141 lbs, while freshman Chandler Pope (Dunedin, Fla./Dunedin) defeated Darren Streets (West Virginia Tech) with a 12-5 decision for a seventh place finish.

Senior Chad Rhoades (Uniontown/Lake) finished in fourth in the 149 lb weight class, while teammates junior Tyler Johnston (Lyndhurst/Brush) defeated teammate freshman Tim Reynolds (Upatoi, Ga/Columbus) by forfeit.

Sophomore Jon Garrison (Fairlawn/Copley) defeated Tyler George (Ohio Valley University) by forfeit to finish in fifth place in the 157 lb weight class, while sophomore Brent Kirk (Adena/Buckeye Local) pinned Jared Merritt (Lake Erie College) at the 6:46 mark for fifth place at 174 lbs.

Freshman Brian Deming (Madison/Perry) pinned Joey Congie (West Liberty University) at  3:48 for a seventh place finish at 184 lbs.

Freshman Lucas Dies (Akron/Manchester) advanced to the finals at 197, but was defeated by Mike Samijlenko (Lake Erie College) by a 15-5 decision. Junior Nick Rajcsak (Stow/Stow) defeated Chase Long with a 7-0 decision to take third place at 197 lbs. Sophomore Joe Monroe and senior Darin Lyles (Elizabeth, Pa/Elizabeth Forward) finished in fifth and seventh respectively at 197 lbs.

Senior Nick Terifaj (Brook Park/Strongsville) defeated Aaron Silverio (West Liberty University) by a 3-2 decision to take third place in the 285 lb weight class.
